My favourite movie.

If you've been reading my journal say from 2003ish onwards, you will already know the answer to this.

A Clockwork Orange.

Although I think this is my favourite scene in the whole film. LOL at Alex's face! <3

I remember the VHS being in the house when I was a kid and being extremely freaked out just by the front cover. Then when I was about 13 somebody reckoned I should be Alex for Halloween, so I watched the VHS and was absolutely HOOKED. I was never really disturbed by it - I actually found the music to be the thing that freaked me out the most, but something changed with me. Suddenly I wanted to find out everything about it - from how it was made, to about the music, references inside it. It's really the film that sparked my interest in film-making and theory, and since I'm now studying Media Production, it's got a lot to answer for!

I met actors Malcolm McDowell (Alex) and Michael Tarn (Pete) at Collectormania Con in Manchester a few years back. They were both incredibly sweet!

I'm a major Kubrick fangirl in general though.
Did you know Simon Cowell was a runner on The Shining? :)

Me and my sister made gingerbread for the first time today.
It was so gooood for a first attempt. And we're a bit useless at baking really.

But twas fun.

Inspired by theexits's post here.

1. Although I have a dirty mind, filthy sense of humour and crude mouth, I'm an absolute prude when it comes to sex. I've only had one 'proper' boyfriend, and don't know how to react to flirtations from boys. I get defensive, actually. Or turn it into a joke. My sister calls me 'Miranda' from Sex And The City. I have the sexual morals of a 1940s housewife, so shoot me - blame my Catholic mother.

2. Although I adore clothes, and only buy high-end brands of makeup until I was 18 I lived in misshapen jeans, band t-shirts, rarely straightened my hair and didn't wear any makeup.

3. Although I'm chubby, I don't actually eat much. I only realised how little when I went to America, and Jessica commented how I don't eat regular portions. I think my extra baggage is due to weird eating patterns (such as eating late).

4. If alcohol was banned today, it wouldn't bother me. I think people rely on it too much to have a good time, and use it as an excuse to do stupid things. I like the taste of beer, but don't really appreciate the effects.

5. I've never really been jealous of anybody. I march to my own drum.

6. Unless I really love the band I'm going to see, I generally don't enjoy going to gigs. The crowds are usually arseholes, and I'm a good five years older than most of them. I don't understand why people don't dance at gigs, and just stand with their arms folded - surely they aren't having a good time?

7. Going on from number 6, I also have pretty bad claustrophobia. I feel uneasy if I'm in a lift or a small room, but I'm actually worse in small clubs because they're crowded and dark. I can't go to Independant nightclub with all my friends on Monday nights because it's too small and closed in, but it's also an indie club so I'm not missing much methinks. I also can't physically get on crowded metros or get into big crowds at gigs. (the main reason I've never been to a music fesival)

8. I have two freckles on my neck that look like a vampire bite.

9. Although I'm a Media student there are several 'epic' films I really should have seen before now that I haven't. For example: Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction, Schindler's List, The Shawshank Redemption....

10. I own 23 films starring Malcolm McDowell.

Christmas. [Sunday

I've been so busy buying presents for the various birthdays this week and next, plus of course Christmas presents I hadn't really thought about myself. I know I'm getting a Mark Hill hairdrying (zebra print! rawr!) from my Uncle Paul but thats it.

Anyway, today I went on Amazon and picked out the Poppy Z. Brite books she wrote about the resteraunts, a Neil Gaiman that so_pseudogoth recommended aaages ago, The Inbetweeners series 1 and 2, Dylan Moran's newest DVD (even though I saw the tour twice...the second time I saw it with whatcateydid it was better, anyway!) and a Vincent Price boxset.

Our Christmas tree is going up on Thursday, but it still feels like I have a lot to do before I can focus on the most wonderful time of the year. Such as Nadia's sweet sixteenth next week, and then Placebo in Manchester the week after. Not to mention stupid uni work.
GO!

During this time of the year I always crave gingerbread, so me and my sister looked up a recipe and are attempting gingerbread eunuchs tomorrow when she comes in from school. Excited!

Carla Gets A Sega Megadrive/Genesis. [Wednesday

I dunno why I've uploaded this. But here you go:

Me during Christmas 1993 opening a Sega Megadrive (Sega Genesis for you Americans).

This was my second biggest Christmas present that year.
As just two weeks previously, my mother squeezed out my sister. And MISSED my (ONLY!) joint lead role in The Little Angels play! (Synopsis: Angels looking for what makes Christmas so special - not the presents, Christmas tree or food. Of course it's Jesus. Hoorah for Catholic schooling!)

That is SO Nadia to steal my moment of glory.
Anyway, in the bit of the home video I didn't cut in you can see a very small, purple, two week old Nadia in a babychair with the Sonic music in the background.

But anyway, watch the video folks.

I was just planning on what I'm going to wear for the Placebo gig me and Sam are going to in Manchester on December 12th.
Last time they toured (and came to Newcastle...stupid Mamma Mia's at the arena until January so they couldn't play here this time around) I wore a home-made t-shirt saying "BRIAN MOLKO IS MY DADDY!!"

Oh and fyi, I promise you all that skirt isn't as short in real life - it's just the way my leg was posed. You can take the girl out of Newcastle...and put her in Sunderland? I have no hope, really.
